Full Description:
John O'Halloron to Brigadier-General Archibald McArthur. St Augustine. Provides and account of the wreck of the 'Eliza' [See Item No 7730] in which he was a passenger, on a shoal between Peacock and Cape Fear. He accounts that having made several unsuccessful attempts to free the vessel Captain Robert Bontfloor [?] was forced to abandon ship. He remained at Beaufort, North Carolina hoping to save part of the cargo or rigging. However, they both fell into American hands and were subject to rough treatment and the captain was unable to execute his mission due to the rapaciousness and inhumanity of the people into whose hands he had befallen.
