Brigadier-General Archibald McArthur to Carleton. St Augustine, Florida. Transmitting a general account of the province, mentioning the number of inhabitants and their slaves [total population 16,000 persons], the militia present, crops [rice, indigo, and Indian corn], stores and ordnance. The type of climate, ground, soil, terrain and neighbourhoods. The rivers, harbours and defence measures in place. Includes recommendations for the employment of several stout galleys and gunboats to defend the entrance of the harbour of St Mary's.
