Full Description:
James Clitherall to John Cruden. St Augustine, Florida. Discussion with regard to the restoration of 'negroes' to their real masters by the governor; those that were without owners and had not been condemned in the High Court of Admiralty. Asks that the matter be laid before Carleton, and that he may write to Governor Tonyn. All this is done under the cloak of friendship to the suffering Loyalists as they [i.e. the slaves] are to be kept until the governor and his council see what the [United] States will do regarding the repeal of the Laws of Confiscation.
