Full Description:
Major-General Benjamin Lincoln to Brigadier-General Alured Clarke. War Office. Honoured with previous letter enclosing a representation addressed by Lieutenant-Colonel Du Buy respecting the German prisoners of war supposed to be detained against their inclinations. The circumstances alledged do not come within his knowledge and he wishes to learn from whom this information was received. Agrees that there are some Germans who were formerly prisoners of war in the country but if they have not become indented servants, they are not cognizable by him. He notes that through communications, no prisoner is detained who wishes to return.
