Full Description:
Carleton to Major-General James Paterson. New York. Number 9. Receipt of previous letters. Wheneverthe troops are withdrawn from Penobscot Brigadier-General Campbell may go to Europe. Approves action in refusing payment for the purchase of cannon and may make allowance to the sergeant and two men of the 82nd and 84th Regiments for loss of necessaries. Cannot give answer to Major Johnson's request of an ensigncy for his son, Major Skinner's account for contingent expenses is returned and Captain Studholme should have applied to the persons whose business it was to have paid him at the time. The account of disbursements in the Secretary's Department is under examination, a paper of proceedings in the office of the Deputy Commissary of Accounts has been sent to Lieutenant-Colonel Drummond and that he has not heard from the War office of any promotion affecting Major Robertson or Captain McDonald.
