Full Description:
Carleton to Thomas Townshend. New York. Number 77. Congress has resolved to release prisoners. Enclosing a copy of these resolves, together with letters which have passed between himself, General Washington and General Lincoln numbered 1-4. Has sent Brigadier-General Clarke and other officers to assist with the march which can be seen in letters 5-11. About 4,900 prisoners have already arrived as can be seen by return Number 12. Also mentions evacuation of the posts, and the delivery of all 'negroes' and other property of the inhabitants of the United States. Has received no other information or orders from home since 16 February.
