Full Description:
Carleton to J Rutledge, David Ramsay, R A Izard and J Lewis Gervais. New York. Number 60. Has received their letter of 27 March 1783 together with fourteen enclosures. Relates that no part of the property truly belonging to the American inhabitants should be carried away on the evacuation of Charleston. That he has acted upon these principles and encloses a copy of an order issued by him for their more perfect information on this matter. Due to the absence of General Leslie and other officers in command he is only able to transmit their letter to England so that it can be considered there. Noted that, Mr Cruden had the charge of sequestered property being here and that he has called upon him to state his conduct and knowledge of the transaction.
