George D Ludlow to Major Upham. Letter from New York acknowledging receipt of letter and encloses copy of general account of funds on Long Island with the original being held by Lieutenant-General Robertson. The police was supported by licenses granted for retailing spiritous liquors which expired the previous April, and has not been renewed due to the uncertainty of the time of evacuation. No rents are now paid on the island so funds are low with farms left derelict. His allowance is 20s per day, or £91 5s per quarter, and paid up until the following Tuesday.
