Full Description:
North to Carleton. A letter from Whitehall in answer to a raft of despatches received that would have been presented to the King. Foreign troops were to be sent home with stores and provisions, and also Loyalists with their effects, on available transports; Six regiments were to be retained in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland with some American battalions being disbanded; considerable quantities of artillery and ordnance sent to Halifax after evacuation of Charlestown, then sent to West Indies; artillery and ordnance in New York should have been sent back to England if not required elsewhere; consideration of request for establishment of a Bishop for Nova Scotia; answer given to distinction between prisoners taken at Bennington to those surrendered at Saratoga regarding allowance of Bat and Forage Money, also to officers prisoners in Pennsylvania. Note of recommendation for a Bishop of Nova Scotia viewed as being satisfactory.
