Full Description:
James Bulyea, Isaac and Arthur Aerse (or Orser) of the corps called 'Delancey's Refugees', and formerly of Westshester County. A letter containing information before William Smith, Chief Justice, of treatment they had received while trying to visit their mothers away from active troop duty. Crossing from Long Island to Frog's Neck, they had received beatings, property stolen from them, and imprisonment at the hands of Continental soldiers under the command of Lieutenant Hill (of Colonel Sproat's Corps). While the judge (Mr Morris) who dismissed them from jail had treated them very civily, it was in his opinion 'none that had been in arms for the king would be permitted to continue in this country'.
