Full Description:
Major William Anstruther, Royal Garrison Battalion to [Carleton]. Bermuda. Has received letter of 26 May by Lord Charles Montague and gave His Lordship a clear state of the affair respecting the detachment from Rattan. The Governor explained to Lord Charles that his action arose from ignorance and gave a ready consent to deliver up all the men. He had sent the worst behaved of the detachment to the king's castle thinking they ought not to be discharged by any civil authority. Sends triplicate of dispatches which should have gone with Lieutenant Slack. Apologises for his impatience for his son Philip, as [Carleton] may quit the continent soon.
