Full Description:
Valentine Landau, Hessian prisoner of war. New York. Document consisting of six parts. Notice signed by B Lincoln, Philadelphia 14 March 1783, liberating Valentine Landau on his taking oath. Oath by Valentine Landau to the United States. Certification of oath taking before Abraham Mitchel, 14 March 1783. Indenture with Jacob Faesch to serve him three years in consideration of the sum of eighty dollars paid for his liberation. Discharge of Valentine Landau from fulfilling the servitude as he has fully satisfied the other party, 23 June 1783. Putative statement by Valentine Landau that if he should repay the £60 New Jersey currency, he would not be bound to serve. The whole being a true copy, signed by H J Motz, Secretary to His Excellency General Lossberg.
