Full Description:
[Carleton] to Major William Anstruther. Has received previous letters and learns about the detachment being sent from Rattan to the Castle in opposition to the orders of the Governor and civil authority of the island. Thinks it would be for the good of His Majesty's service to cultivate on all occasions their friendship. Has desired Lord Charles Montague to enquire into the circumstances and if he finds it proper that they should go to that island, he will furnish them with a passage. Desires duplicates of papers sent by the mentor. [Noted in Calendar that this letter was written before the 13 June, see Anstruther's of that date].
