Full Description:
Carleton to North. New York. Number 89. Encloses copy of a letter which he received from Mr Chief Justice William Smith and begs leave to recommend it for consideration. The salary always paid by the crown amounting to £500 per annum, I have made no difficulty of paying here in the like manner as has been directed respecting the payment of Mr Chief Justice Smyth of New Jersey, but the additional claims of Mr William Smith which appear to me to be well founded, I am obliged to refer home for adjustment and satisfaction, which I hope will soon be made.
