Eve English to Carleton. New York. Petition. That her husband, a private in the 26th Regiment, having been taken prisoner continued working in the country until about six weeks ago when he returned to New York intending to hand himself over and rejoin his regiment; that he delayed too long, was apprehended as a deserter and sentenced to be sent to the West Indies. As he is old and infirm he is utterly unfit for service especially in a hot climate and she has two small children to maintain, prays that his sentence be recalled and he be allowed to remain here with her and two helpless infants.
