Full Description:
Captain de Waldenfels, commanding the Anspach Jager Regiment, to Captain John Stapleton, Deputy Adjutant-General. On board the 'Caroline'. Acknowledges receipt of John Sherman's memorial with respect to the three cows I took from him in return for the valuable grey mare he stole from me. Asserts he acted agreeable to orders and under the sanction of General Musgrave. Besides which he has Sherman's own bill of sale to seize upon and 'destrain' as much of his property, to the value of £14 14s. Returns the memorial and is ready to authenticate the assertion of this letter. Endorsed 'Approved of by the Commander-in-Chief 31 July 1783 Fredk. Mackenzie D A Genl'.
