Full Description:
Robert Morse, Chief Engineer, to Carleton. Halifax. That Brigadier-General Fox writes to Carleton so fully on the military business of the province that he (Morse) is left with little to say - mentions the topics covered by Fox; the return of the numerous ordnance storehouses not yet made; recommends alternative arrangements for the storage of powder and inflammable articles which will make room for storage of provisions; if the situation becomes permanent will be necessary to build wharfs, storehouses &c; remarks on the lack of suitable remaining land and the reasons for this; has as yet made no progress on collecting material for his report but hopes to go in a few days; gives details of his first object - Passamaquody Bay and the boundary river about which he fears difficulties will arise; the governor has asked Fox to send troops there immediately; number of valuable logs and lumber at Penobscot paid for by the government, asks if it is to be removed, will be useful at Passamaquody or in the harbour of St John's river whenever establishments may be made there. Is doubtful if so long a letter will be interesting or acceptable to him. Fears for a boundary dispute between the province of Nova Scotia and the United States over the 'middle' St Croix River.
