Full Description:
[Carleton] to Brigadier-General Fox. New York. Detailed instructions as to the disbanding of the 2nd battalion, 84th Regiment and the British American Corps in Nova Scotia and St John's Island. Asks for a list of all men in the British regiments under Fox's command who are entitled to their discharge and wish to remain in America; also an embarkation return of those going to Europe so that provision can be made for their transport. Is to pay the 200 days' bat and forage money to the troops under his command. Is to order an enquiry to be made into the actions of Captain Studholme regarding the use of the boats intended for the refugees on the St John's River. Encloses an extract of a letter from the Secretary of State to be communicated to the officers of the British American Corps so that they know where they stand as to their hopes for half pay; has no other information on the subject. Encloses accounts of public service expenditure at Spanish River by Lieutenant Fraser, 82nd Regiment, sent from Halifax, for examination by the Board of Accounts and, if found in order and properly due, order it paid. Has been given notice by the Secretary at War that the military establishment for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland is to consist of one major-general with one aide-de-camp, one brigade major, one surgeon and three hospital mates; Major-General Campbell to command.
