Full Description:
[Carleton] to Brigadier-General McArthur. New York. Received his letters of 19 and 20 July with enclosures on the '18th instant'. Sends the General Orders in which are set out the King's instructions to Carleton as to the disposal of the troops under his command and the benefits offered to those who choose to settle in Nova Scotia. The British American regiments under McArthur's command to be transported to Halifax or any other part of Nova Scotia where their lands may be located and there disbanded. Arrangements for those troops choosing to be dismissed at St Augustine and for the refugees from New York who have gone to Abbaco Island and Cat Island. The detachment of the Royal Artillery at St Augustine to remain until the final evacuation of that place. His detailed instructions on departure regarding payments to be made to officers and other matters. Intends to recommend him for the governorship of the Bahamas. Encloses an extract from the Secretary of State's letter to be communicated to the officers so that they may know where they stand as to their hopes of half pay. Has no other information on the subject.
