Full Description:
George Beckwith. Connecticut, New London. Intelligence. Number 6. Discussion with regard to the perplexity of public affairs. There are meetings held to pay no rates, and towns are coming to similar measures whereby they deny the authority of Congress to levy taxes on them. Also mentions that liberty poles are being erected displaying the motto 'Confusion to our half-pay officers and all their adherents', and that Whigs see no possiblity of our paying the interest of our foreign debts. People are continually finding fault with Congress, the assemblies and their modes of raising taxes, and General Washington as well as Congress, have lost their popularity with the people in general.
