Full Description:
Luther Baldwin and James Akin to Carleton. New York. Petition. That they are imprisoned in the Provost on a charge of attempting to take away a sloop from Staten Island in the possession of persons named Hatfield. Explain that his sloop was in the first place taken by these Hatfields from a widow named Camp who was living at Newark, New Jersey and that they were not conscious of committing any crime. They were urged to do it hearing that the said Hatfields were intending to take her away from this part of the continent, whereby all hopes of redress would be lost. Pray relief and that the ownership of the said sloop may be investigated.
