Full Description:
Governor Patrick Tonyn to Carleton. St Augustine [Florida]. Discussion with regard to the consequences of the removal of the troops from the province before the ratification of the definitive treaty and the final evacuation. The fears include the settlements being exposed, 'negroes' being plundered, the actions of the Indians, and the lower sorts being driven into the back country out of reach of all governments. Also mentions needing assistance with the evacuation of the sixteen thousand inhabitants and the fact that he has been presented with a petition expressing the inhabitants sentiments and feelings, a copy of which he is sending.
