Full Description:
Brigadier-General Archibald McArthur to Carleton. St Augustine. Encloses a copy of an address drawn up and signed this day. Discussion with regard to the instructions he was given for the discharging of the troops, advice needed about the refugees and 'negroes', and the provisions he will be taking with him to the Bahamas. Asks that if the garrison intended for Providence could be sent there [i.e. to East Florida] until the final evacuation, it would be the means of restoring order, which is likely to increase from the departure of the troops. Noted on the reverse of the document that it had been received 25 September 1783, and the enclosure is the address of the inhabitants of St Augustine.
