Full Description:
Zebedee Jerry [or Terry], Campo Belo [Bay of Fundy] to Major Studholme at Fort Howe. Relates that he must inform that he is unable at present to proceed to explore the rivers as set out in orders from Colonel Morse. Must take account of the arrival of Mr I Allen among the Indians as Colonel Commandant with a small vessel loaded with gifts for the natives [i.e. Maliseet, Mickmack, and Penoboscot]. Allen has requested in writing a conference with Jerry to discuss his instructions from Congress and Massachusetts State to ensure that there are no further British encroachments on American lands [to the west of the Majeggadawy? River] also that no suveys may be taken, and that no inhabitant should give any aid or assistance to or even harbour a British subject in their house, at the expense of the last drop of blood. Jerry replied to Allen that he was simply gathering information to lay before the Commissioners to ascertain which is the correct River St Croix. He asks for instructions.
