Full Description:
[General Sir Guy Carleton] to Richard Brinsley Sheridan. A letter from New York acknowledging receipt of letters and stated that the Deputy Paymaster General had been directed, from 1 October, not to accept any more Bills less than 2½% exchange rate of the Dollar which was 4s 6d. Had hoped there would be more in the Military Chest for public service and now wanted the money holders to send cash via the King's ships instead of Bills, especially at the advanced rate, which could cause repercussions with both freight and insurance costs. The same orders were also sent to Halifax.
