Isaac Wilkins to Carleton. Jamaica, Long Island. Is sorry to bother him with private business. At the beginning of the troubles was a member of the General Assembly of this province and being opposed to Congress had to take refuge in England. Relates events following his return in 1776 and his current circumstances, including the sequestration of his estate in Westchester which he had thought would be a refuge for his family. Has a family of seventeen, including wife and eight children, to provide for and no other source of income than the annual government allowance of £200. Requests while he is absent in England they may be given rations until the spring when he can get them conveyed to Nova Scotia. Endorsed 'A warrant granted to Mrs Isabella Wilkins October 83 for £100 sterling. By order of the Commander in Chief. Fredk Mackenzie, D A-General.'
