Full Description:
[Carleton] to Brigadier-General Fox. New York. Encloses copy of a letter from the Deputy Inspector-General of British American Forces sending a return of the officers and men of the 2nd battalion of De Lancey's and the Maryland Loyalists who survived the wreck of the 'Martha' transport and who, because of their distressed situation, he desires be paid one muster's pay from 25 October and also the further sum of £60 which was expended by them for their preservation and transport to St John's River. Also encloses a return of the company of Black Pioneers embarked for Annapolis Royal and who are paid up to 24 October 1783; as they are considered disbanded they will have no demands for pay or clothing after they arrive. Recommends them to his protection and specifies the land grants Fox is to apply for on their behalf from Governor Parr. P S Captain Kennedy is to make a formal protest against the master of the 'Martha' for the loss of the ship, the protest to be sent to the Secretary at War as it may be too late to send it here to the principal agent of transport.
