Full Description:
Governor John Parr to [Carleton]. Nova Scotia, Halifax. Requests his good offices to have him put on the same half-pay footing as the officers of the disbanded Nova Scotia Volunteers, of which he (Parr) was colonel, should any difficulty arise from his holding employment under the Crown, for which a dispensation may be obtained or from his having sold out of the army. His entire emoluments as governor do not exceed £1,400 and the expenses are greatly increased by the number of Loyalists and unfortunate people he must entertain. Is sorry to have to report the loss of the 'Gigg' sloop hired to take the surveyors to Port Moutoon. No loss of life but all the surveying instruments, drawings &c lost which will lead to delay in laying out the land there and Port Herbert for the artificers of your army.
