Full Description:
William Tanner and wife to Carleton, Petition. He sets out his losses in trade and by the boycott in Philadelphia and Lancaster. Along with Mr Franks was allowed bail, Franks was obliged to sell his property, he by contrast was bailed for £6,000. Relates that when Lord Cornwallis was taken he assisted British soldiers in their escape. Asks for money to tramsport himself and his family to Quebec or elsewhere. His case is supported by the testimony of J. Campbell, 74th Regiment and Lieutenant Veitch, 80th Regiment. Also, attached is a testimony on his behalf signed by John Kunn, which attested that 'one midnight about 16th May, 1782 he saw eighteen British prisoners let out of the hay loft by Tanner'. Marked: 'If Mr Ryland, late Assistant Deputy Paymaster at Lancaster will recommend him it will be taken into consideration.'
