Full Description:
Cavalier Jouet to Carleton. New York. Memorial. Refers to former applications. Prolonged illness is the reason for this late application. Is advised by his friends to go to England to seek compensation for his losses and sufferings as a loyal and fathful subject. Is obliged to leave behind his wife and large family until he knows the outcome of his application. His family has been supported of late entirely by payments from the Navy Departments for the hospital and brewery on Long Island, which ceases with this quarter leaving him destitute of means to support them during his absence and himself whilst in England. Prays some assistance. Recommended for relief by Robert Digby 16 November1783. Note endorsed on back signifies an order given 19 November 1783 to Mr Coffin to pay £25 sterling. Signed F. Mackenzie, Deputy Adjutant-General.
