Full Description:
Philip Kearny, formerly of New Jersey, to Carleton. Memorial. Was possessed of a very considerable estate in New Jersey. In 1777 was obliged to leave by reason of his attachment to the Crown on account of which he was attainted and all his real and personal property confiscated. Was forced after three years without any Government aid to apply to Sir Henry Clinton who appointed him assistant Inspector of Refugees to Roger Morris but his salary for that ceased last September. His family situation is such as renders it impossible for him to leave this autumn with the British troops. Prays for the grant of another quarter's salary. A certificate at the foot , dated 15 November 1783, by Andrew Elliot testifies to the truth of the statement. Endorsed: - 'To have it. A warrant issued 17 November 1783. Frederick Mackenzie, Deputy Adjutant-General'.
