Full Description:
Margaret Drake to Carleton. Petition. That three years ago her husband Joseph Drake went along with Robert Land, being entrusted by Sir Henry Clinton with letters for Canada and never returned. Being uncertain as to her husband's fate and since she cannot stay in New York after the evacuation, proposes to go with her three children to enquire after him. That for a time was paid her husband's salary of four shillings a day in addition to the salary ordered to be paid to her by Sir Henry Clinton. Her husband's salary has not been paid for two years but she has been loath to trouble the govenment for it. Begs a quarter's salary and also whatever shall be thought just and equitable on account of her being deprived of her husband and for his and her loyalty.
