Full Description:
Peggy Gwynne, a 'negro' woman formerly of Virginia, to Carleton. Petition. Came to New York with the King's troops under the protection of General Howe's proclamation; desires liberty to go with her husband who belongs to the Artillery Department, but a certain Mr Crammon (sic) wants to detain her and deprive her of the liberty she has enjoyed by virtue of the proclamation. Begs such relief as Carleton may think fit. With a note on back dated 19 November by Major Mackenzie that she must be delivered up to her owner.
