Phillips to Sir Henry Clinton. Cambridge. Encloses monthly Returns for May and duplicates of several letters written to Sir William Howe before it was known he had left the army and a recital of several orders he (Phillips) has given since the departure of Lieutenant-General Burgoyne. [Enclosures not included].The letter covers inter alia the situation, condition and possible exchange of the British troops held prisoners of war. Regiments referred to are the 71st., 53rd., 29th., 31st. and 34th., the Royal Regiment of Artillery of the Canadian Establishment and Lieutenant Nutt's detachment of the 33rd. Names mentioned are Captain Shrimpton, Lieutenant-Colonel the Earl of Balcarres, Colonel McGaw (an American officer), Major-General Jones, Lieutenant-Colonel Campbell of the 71st Regiment, Mr [Elias] Boudinot, General Daniel Jones, the Honorable Captain Ramsay of the 21st Regiment, Thomas Hill, nephew of Lieutenant-Colonel Hill of the 9th Regiment
