Full Description:
Henry Hamilton to Captain Richard Beringer Lernoult, King's Regiment Commandant at Detroit. Informing him of the St Vincennes garrison's surrender to Colonel [George Rogers] Clark on 25 February [1779]. He lists the wounded British by name, rank, injury and prognosis. He also states that Clark 'is but now undeceived as to my conduct and that of the partisans who acted under my direction in the Indian war, every sort of misrepresentation having been used to paint us in the blackest colours'. He is being sent [a prisoner] to Williamsburg 'where he has no doubt of finding from Governor Henry such treatment as may be expected from a person of his character for honour and generosity'. Postscript 21 May 'On St James's River 40 miles above Richmond - left St V 8 March- We continue all in health of the King's as follows - Parkinson, Lazenby, Frazer, Sutherland, Pickering, Vesey, Perry, Keppel, Horn, Bryant, Spittal, Wall, ?Lagza, the rest detained at St V.'
