Full Description:
Brigadier-General Francis McLean to Clinton. Halifax. A detailed report of the seriously depleted resources available for the defence of Halifax following the departure to New York of the flank companies of the 70th, 74th and 82nd Regiments as ordered by Clinton. He says the departure of so many warships has left the Bay of Fundy defenceless during the winter and asks that Admiral Gambier be requested to send one or two vessels which are also necessary for the preserving communication between the outposts of Forts Howe and Cumberland. He refers, inter alia, to the action he has taken with regard to a dispute between Major Dewint and Captain Burgess of the King's Orange Rangers; two men of the Royal Highland Emigrants; and the discharge of Mr Jefferies as Purveyor to the Hospital. A postscipt relates to Captain McDonald of the Young Royal Emigrants.
