Full Description:
and 976. Brigadier- General Prevost to Howe. St Augustine. Transmission of copies of his letters of 1 November and the12 February with several enclosures, the monthly returns and many letters from Pensacola. Captain McIntosh has leave to go to New York as does Lieutenant Barrow of the 16th. Sends memorials of Captain Miller and Lieutenant Sutherland. Reports that the frigates that shut up the ports are preventing the rebels from making perparations against St Augustine. Distressing the settlements on the St John's is not however so easily prevented as small struggling parties could effect it and cannot be so easily discovered, but the parties of Indians who pass that way and on occassion go to war against them deter them from the attempt. Also makes a note of communications about the state of Indian affairs sent on the 'Daphne' and letters from a Mr Stuart of his high hopes to bring the Creeks to reason and to give Mr. Stuart proper satisfaction for the insult offered to his agents amongst them. Makes note of prisoners from who were held by the rebels who were exchanged for some of the prisoners made at Fort McIntosh. Regards also the financial settlements that have been made to those prisoners who were released and mentions that Lieutenant Barrow has the account of what money has been advanced to them, that the same may be credited by the paymasters and repaid to the agents of the 60th regiment, as it has been necessary to issue provisions to the Rangers raised in the East and West Florida by Governor Tonyn and Mr Superintendent Stuart. Includes a post script that he has been made aware of rebels arming their galleys in order he supposes to prevent their men-of-war taking in water at St Mary's river, where they can do it with more expedition.
