Haldimand to Clinton. Quebec. Report on what has passed in this last quarter. Discusses confirmation that the rebels have retreated from the Indian Country, and the movements and situation with Sir John Johnson. Anticipation and preperation of an attack from the rebels on the province by river, and nothing can be expected of the Indians unless a considerable force is sent to support them. Interception of the enemies messages reveals that they are much disconcerted by their defeat at Penobscot, and that the inhabitants deny their authority and refuse to obey their orders when called upon to carry arms.
