Full Description:
Haldimand, Quebec to Carleton. Most Private. Most Secret. (Two letters one in French the other an English translation.) He refers to a letter from Lord Shelburne in which he warns of French designs on Quebec adding that the preservation of Canada is vital to British interests in North America. To this end the letter indicates that Carleton is under the King's orders to undetake a mission in Canada. As a result Haldimand expresses unease at the thought of serving under a younger man and desires to leave for Britain with his rank and emoluments intact.
