Full Description:
New York. Translation of a letter from the commanding officers of the Hessian regiments with the army under Lieutenant-General Sir William Howe at Philadelphia in November 1777 to Lieutenant-General de Lossberg. Representing the hardship which will arise if the shoes then issued to the Hessian troops in Philadelphia as a present are now charged to them at 5/- a pair. At the end is a translation of the orders of Lieutenant-General Knyphausen to the effect that the shoes (being a gift) were not to be charged to the men and if not required at the time they were to be saved till wanted.
