Full Description:
Samuel Hake to Governor James Robertson. 13 Duke Street, New York. A long letter protesting against the treatment experienced by him. Astonished that his memorial was to be submitted to a Council after the severity he had received from them, and that he was refused a copy of the proceedings of the Board. Flatters himself that when the depositions and memorial of so respectable a body of Loyalists (relative to Colonel Roger Morris's conduct) 'is fairly stated' to the impartial public on both sides of the Atlantic, which he will be under the neccessity of doing in vindication of his own character, it will see the principle in writing to the Adjutant-General (on the 19 December) to fully justify him. Information was given to prejudice His Excellency against him, and complains of the withdrawl of the billet on 28 May last. 'Has inability of getting any redress', and concludes by asking that if his memorial of 'the 18th ulto cannot be complied with without a reference to the Council, the favour of its return'.
