Full Description:
Thomas Freebody to Carleton. Newport [Rhode Island]. Agreeable of the favour of 18 November accompanying the records of the town of Newport safe to hand per the flag Captain John Stanton. Sorry to find the records in so bad a situation as very few of them were legible, owing to their lying so many years after being wet, without examination. Notwithstanding, he is duly sensible of Carleton's ready compliance with his request. Acknowledges his humane offer for diminishing the public distress upon their information and shall avail himself thereof upon every necessary occasion.
