Carleton to General George Washington. New York. Received from General Haldimand the enclosed papers for consideration. Discussion mentions him wanting to put a stop to the calamities of war of which he is persuaded neither party could derive much benefit from. Haldimand has received no official dispatches for a considerable time past, as neither has he. It is therefore from Washington that they must hear of peace.
