Full Description:
Three inquests taken at the house of the Widow Scott in the West Ward city and county of New York by William Waddell, coroner. Twelve jurors named. First inquest on the body of Lewis Harrison, a black man, late the property of William Devenport. Second inquest on the body of Charles Cain, a black man, late the property of Thomas Ludlow. Third inquest on the body of Benjamin Gordon, a black man from Charleston, South Carolina. [All three were salvaging cargo from the hold of the 'Infanta Carlotta' aground on the west bank outside the narrows between Sandy Hook and New York].
