Full Description:
Carleton to Poyntz. New York. Warrant to pay Captain William Gray, paymaster to the New York Volunteers, the sum of £187 sterling. Being pay due the commissioned and non-commissioned officers, and private men of the North Carolina Volunteers doing their duty with the said New York Volunteers, who were taken prisoners of war and have since returned from captivity, from 25 June 1782 to 24 June 1783 inclusive, as per the annexed memorial and account. From which the sum of £1 2d sterling is to be detained being a stoppage of one shilling in the pound from the pay of one commissioned officer, with which last mentioned sum you are to surcharge yourself in your account with the Paymaster-General.
