VLF 84 is a parchment codex from the first half of the 9th c., its leaves measuring 295 x 210 mm (except for ff. 71-75, 77-79, c. 150 x 200 mm) . It is constructed of 15 quires of mostly 4 bifolia, totalling 120 leaves (240 pages). The codex was partly reconstructed in the 19th c. by inserting a few leaves from other codices. Quire signatures are still visible. Written space covers c. 220 x 150/155 mm (c. 35 lines in hard point ruling). The text was written by several scribes in Minuscula carolina. The codex has a 19th-c. cardboard binding with dark leather protection on which the emblem of the Leiden University is stamped.
